Dear OHS Families,

Thank you for all your patience with our strange, heat-intense week last week!  I know it was a major inconvenience to all of you.  Looking forward to full-days this coming week.

Photo Day

We have Photo Day on Monday for individual and class photos.  We are hoping for good weather so we can be outside for the photos.

Open House, 9/13

This Wednesday, 9/13, is Open House at OHS from 6:30 pm-7:30 pm.   We will start off directly in the classrooms at 6:30 with a welcome video and then a presentation from the classroom teacher.  If you have multiple children at OHS, you will be able to shift to another classroom at around 7:00 to see the room and meet the teacher.   The evening is meant to be a chance to see the classroom, learn about what the year will be like for your child, and meet the teacher.  It is not appropriate to speak specifically about your child with the teacher that evening as there will be many families and privacy will be a concern.  Feel free to reach out to the teacher at a different time for specific information about your individual child.  Looking forward to a fun night together.

Student Medications

Nurse Jim wants to make sure that all students with medical conditions requiring medications have current doctor’s orders and medications at school at this time.  Please submit those to Nurse Jim as soon as possible if any are outstanding.  Thank you for your attention to this.

Bus Riding

As a reminder for the new year, students may not ride buses to which they are not assigned. This means we cannot accept notes for students to ride a friend’s bus home for a playdate.  It is a district rule.  Though we do encourage social time outside of school through other means of transportation!

Shake Day on 9/14

This Thursday, 9/14, is a special Shakey Joe's "Pop Up" promotion for OHS students during breakfast hours (8:45am-10:00am). Students will be invited to have a free Strawberry or Strawberry-Banana smoothie.  Last year’s event was very popular with students!

Have a great week!

David

OHS celebrates Diversity Week

Diversity Week is back! Restored to its original format at the end of September, we are excited to kick off this new year of school events by celebrating the variety in our society and in our OHS community. Over the course of the week of September 26th, our dedicated K-5 teachers will impart thoughtful mini-lessons designed to foster awareness and acceptance of our diversity in its many forms.

Volunteers needed for Diversity Day Stations

As per tradition, grades 3, 4, and 5 will close out the week with Diversity Day, set for Friday, September 29th.  Please mark your calendars!  This exciting day will consist of a return visit from Ryan Martin of RMF, who will present to grades 4 and 5 in the afternoon, as well as our interactive stations event for grades 3 and 5 in the morning.  These stations explore learning challenges, motor skills, cultural diversity, and more, while also promoting respect and inclusion within our school.  Each station is run by our wonderful parent volunteers … which means we need YOU to make this day happen!  If you are interested in volunteering, especially 3rd and 5th grade parents/relatives, you can find details and sign up here Thank you in advance for your help!!

Many thanks for your support,

The Diversity Committee

Support Fairfield Public Schools' Green Teams

Did you know the average elementary school student throws away more than A POUND of food every week? Fairfield Public Schools and the Fairfield PTA Council’s Green Teams are working to drive sustainability across the district and are partnering with SustainableCT on a grant to help collect food waste in five additional Fairfield schools over the next two years. Every $1 donation will be matched by $1.5 from SustainableCT but we need 250 unique donors by the end of September to qualify - so a donation of even $5 or $10 makes a big difference! Click here for more details about this campaign and to support Fairfield’s efforts to Go Green!

If you’re interested in getting involved in sustainability efforts at OHS, reach out to Emily Bergantino.
