Dear OHS Families,

We have managed to hit the mid-point of the month already!  Please keep in mind we have two early dismissal days coming up next week on 10/25 and 10/26 for parent/guardian conferences with teachers.

Book Fair Thank You

This past week we had a busy and successful Scholastic Book Fair in the LLC. The organizers, Rhiannon Kelty, Ashley Maguire, and Christine Rollo deserve our thanks for managing all the goods, finding volunteers, and for all the other pieces that go into making the event possible.  Thank you also to all the volunteers throughout the week for giving of their time for this popular event.  Thank you to our families for stopping by and supporting the book fair.

DESSA Mini Opt-Out Reminder

The district sent out information of our upcoming social and emotional universal screener, the DESSA-mini. You are able to opt your child out of this screener by emailing me by the opening of the window on October 17th.

Staying with our Current Car-Loop System

I sent out word on Friday that we will be staying with our current Car-Loop System so please keep your current student pick-up numbers.  The current system works well and there were some challenges with the system we were going to switch to that make it less desirable at the moment.

Halloween Parades – Tuesday, Oct 31st
There will be two Halloween parades on Tuesday, October 31st:

  1. Our kindergarteners will have a parade around the outside of the school at 9:30 am.  Students in the other grades will stand outside their exterior classroom doors to cheer on our kindergarteners.  Family members of our kindergarteners can stand in front of the school to see the parade.  K students can come to school in costumes, keeping masks and other parts in bags.

2. Our parade for students in grades 1-5 will begin at 2:30 pm. I will send out specifics for this parade route next week. For now, it is important to know students in grades 1-5 will have a little time before the parade to put on costumes.  Please think about costumes that will allow studednts the ability to manage on their own.

Please keep in mind we cannot have toys shaped as any sort of weapon - e.g. a pretend gun, sword, knife, sickle, pitchfork, etc. Please save those for neighborhood trick-or-treating. Also, please make sure that any masks allow for proper visibility. For anyone who chooses not to wear a costume, which is completely fine, I would encourage the wearing of school colors, spirit wear, or Halloween colors.

Have a good week,

David
