Dear OHS Families,

These certainly are the busy weeks of December!

Mad Science

This past week, we had a Mad Science program for grades K, 1, and 2 with an exciting chemistry/change of state focus. The students had a wonderful time and I heard lots of positive feedback. This coming Wednesday, 12/13, Mad Science will be returning with a “Freaky Lab” presentation for grades 3, 4, and 5. Big thanks to Kate Fierman for organizing this program and to the OHS PTA for supporting this type of programming for our students.

Progress Reports

The progress reports for the first semester are now available in Infinite Campus. The progress reports are standards based and teachers spend a good deal of time working on making them meaningful and reflective of each student’s progress thus far. Please be sure to check them out.

Pumpkin Composting Results

It was great to see our pumpkin composting was such a successful first year with 4,620 pounds collected by the OHS community. The full drive across town gathered 18 tons in total! Big thanks to Emily Bergantino for organizing the drive.

Holiday Sweets for our Sweet Staff

It's the most wonderful time of the year so let's celebrate the staff at the most wonderful school in town! We are transforming the staff lounge into a winter wonderland full of treats and snacks and need your help to make it happen. The PTA will be donating bagels. Click here to sign up to donate something fun the teachers and staff could enjoy on the last week of 2023. Please drop the items off at the front office on Monday December 18th or Tuesday December 19th in the morning.

PTA Meeting Friday - all parents welcome!

All parents are welcome at our December PTA meeting Friday at 9:30am in the OHS APR. Come have a cup of coffee and learn about our programming for the remainder of the school year. We hope you'll join us!

Friday is Spirit Day

Break out the Ozzie gear or go green! Friday is Spirit Day! Spirit Day occurs the last full-day Friday of each month.

Find teacher favorites on our website

Trying to guess which restaurant in town is your teacher's favorite? Do they prefer Starbucks or Dunkin'? Candy or candles? 'Tis the season for tough questions... but you can find the answers to all of these and more on our OHS PTA website!

We've done the leg work for you and surveyed OHS teachers and staff for their favorite things. You can find them by selecting "Staff Favorites" under the School Info tab, or by clicking here.

A reminder - a portion of the funds collected by room parents at the beginning of the year are budgeted for a class holiday gift for the homeroom teacher. Room parents will be in touch about this soon!

Bridgeport Islanders hockey tickets

A hockey game is fun for the whole family - and more fun when you're sitting with your OHS friends! We have a section reserved for Osborn Hill families on January 20th. Tickets are $25 and come with a free hat! A small portion of each ticket sale will benefit the PTA. Buy your tickets here:

6 Ways to Win! Enter the Reflections Competition

Do you have a kid who loves to take photos? Or always makes videos? Put those social media skills to good use and encourage them to enter the Reflections arts competition.

Answer the prompt "I am hopeful because..." using one of these six categories:

Visual arts
Photography
Music composition
Film production
Dance choreography
Literature

There will be a winner from OHS in each category for grades K-2 and 3-5. Winners will get a gift card to Crumbl and move on to the state competition! Entries must be submitted by January 5.

Attention Incoming Kindergarteners!

The office is compiling an email list of incoming kindergarten students for next fall. If you will have a kindergartener for the next school year, please either:

Email TBudlowski@fairfieldschools.org with your future KDG student’s name, date of birth, your address, your best contact phone number, and the preschool they attend
Call the school office at 203-255-8340 extension 1 so the registration procedures can be emailed to you in January.
