Dear OHS Families,

I hope you are having a good start to 2024!  It was great to see many of you during our first week back from the break.

Early Dismissal- Tuesday, 1/9

This Tuesday, 1/9, is an early release day.  We will dismiss students at 1:40.  This is a professional development afternoon for staff.  Your child(ren) will dismiss via their typical dismissal plan unless otherwise noted in School Dismissal Manager by you.

Winter District Screening Assessments

This week begins our window for winter district assessments.  These include NWEA math for K-5 students, Acadience LA assessments for K-3, and NWEA LA assessments for 4-5.  For grades 3-5, it is important that students’ chromebooks come to school charged, since their assessments will be completed through the Chromebook.

Martin Luther King, Jr Day- No School, Monday, 1/15

Next Monday, 1/15, is a holiday in honor of the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.  Dr. King's legacy serves as a powerful reminder of his contributions to equality, justice, and unity.  This is a good time to discuss the importance of kindness, respect, and understanding, and how these values can contribute to creating a more compassionate and inclusive community.

Composting in the Lunchroom- Starts 1/16

On Tuesday, 1/16, we will be having a CARES assembly in the morning to teach our new lunchroom processes before kicking off our new procedures at lunches that day. Big thanks to our Green Team and the parent volunteers, Emily Bergantino and Beth Nori, for working to get this organized.

Have a great week,

David

Sweetheart Dance - Tickets on Sale

Grab your dancing shoes, the Sweetheart Dance is February 3 in the APR at OHS! Every OHS student is invited to join the dance with one special adult (parent, caregiver, etc.). There will be a photobooth, craft area and games, hot chocolate bar and desserts, and of course, a DJ! In order to accommodate all students, the dance is divided into two sessions:

4:30pm-6:15pm for students in Kindergarten - 2nd Grade

7:15-9:00pm for 3rd - 5th Graders

** Please note - we cannot accommodate older students in the younger session, and vice-versa. For families with children in both groups, you have two options:

  1. Buy a couple's ticket for the first dance and bring your K-2 grader. Purchase a sibling ticket for your 3-5 grader, too.  At 6:15pm, bring your K-2 grader home and pick up your 3-5 grader and return to OHS for more fun!
  2. Purchase two couple's tickets. One special adult escorts the K-2 grader to the first dance.  At 6:15, you head home after having fun.  At 7:15, another special adult escorts the 3-5 grader to the second session of the dance.

If you have more than one child in the same age group, they can both be accompanied by the same special adult. You would purchase one couples ticket and a sibling ticket.

Tickets are for sale NOW on our website

Prices are $35 for a couple (adult and child) and $15 for an additional sibling. You can add on boutonnieres and corsages for an additional price.

The deadline to buy tickets is January 29.

Volunteers needed

We're looking for volunteers to help make our dance a success - from setting up, to manning the dessert bar/crafts, etc. Thank you for taking the time to make this a fun night for all!
