Dear OHS Families,

This past week was all about celebrating reading and books and there are many people to thank for making it an engaging week for our students.

Reading Celebration Week: A Recap

Throughout the week, our students showcased their love of reading through engaging in reading bingo and by crafting banners adorned with their favorite books, now proudly displayed in the hallway near the gym. We're deeply appreciative of Ashley Maguire for leading this initiative, fostering a vibrant atmosphere for our students to celebrate their love for reading.

Author Visit Highlights

Adding an extra layer of excitement to Reading Celebration Week, author David A. Kelley presented at three assemblies on Wednesday. His insights into the world of writing and the journey to becoming an author left a lasting impression.  There was lots of positive feedback about this visit from students and staff members. Special thanks to Kate Fierman for orchestrating this visit, and to the PTA for their continuous support in bringing enriching experiences to our school.

Successful Annual Book Swap

On Friday, we had our annual Book Swap.  Students were able to come home with several new-to-them books from the event.  It was a great way to celebrate the end of Reading Celebration Week!  Big thanks to Christina Mink and Julissa Pesok for leading the event this year, gathering volunteers, collecting and organizing the books, and then setting up and cleaning up for the Swap!  Their hard work along with all our volunteers ensured that the Book Swap was a resounding success!

Progress Reports Release on Monday
On Monday afternoon, your child(ren)’s second semester progress report will post to Infinite Campus. Please review the progress report when you have a moment prior to your conference time next week.

Conferences next Week, 3/19 & 3/21
Next week we have early dismissals on 3/19 and 3/21 to allow time for spring conferences. Conferences are a little shorter this time around, with 13 minutes of total time with the teacher. We have to keep the conferences short because there is more limited time in the schedule for conferences in the district schedule this year.  Communication between home and school is vital and these conferences are a great time to share, listen, and ask questions all in the interest of supporting your child(ren).

St Baldrick’s Event Coming Up Friday, 3/22
On Friday, 3/22, from 5:30-8:00 pm, we have the return of our annual Team Teddy St. Baldrick’s Foundation Fundraiser at OHS. This event is held each year in memory of former OHS student, Teddy Gerber, for whom Teddy’s Corner is named in our LLC. You can support by purchasing raffle basket tickets or by supporting one of the shavees shaving their heads on Friday at Team Teddy.

Class Placement Letters Reminder

As a reminder, we are currently accepting letters from families to provide information to our placement teams. Please see the linked letter for more details about the information we will accept. Please know letters containing information we do not accept will be returned. Please send letters in by April 5, 2024 to Terry Budlowski so we can organize the information over the break in preparation for our placement teams.

Have a good week,

David

Reading Celebration Week thanks

We'd like to thank the OHS community for supporting the students during our Reading Celebration Week activities. From encouraging your children to submit a book banner or fill out a bingo sheet, to those that purchased celebration books for the library, to the over 3,000 books that were donated to the book swap, to the volunteers that helped with collection and transformed the APR into a bookstore - thank you for helping to foster the children's love of books!  We especially appreciate Ashley Maguire for leading our Reading Celebration Week activities, Kate Fierman for organizing the inspiring visit with author David A. Kelly, Lauren Castaneda for working on celebration books, and Chrissy Mink and Julissa Pesok for spearheading the Book Swap.

Questions? Contact the ASA team

We are setting the stage for one of Osborn Hill's favorite traditions - the Variety Show! Tickets will go on sale March 25. Standby for more details!

Calling all artists! Submit your designs for the Variety Show program cover

Your child is invited to submit cover art for our Variety Show program - all submissions must be handed into the office no later than Monday, March 25. Designs must be black and white - best if you use a black sharpie or black finepoint pen. Draw Ozzy singing, or your peers dancing, or hot dogs onstage (remember that from last year?? What a hoot!). Thank you and good luck to all of our talented artists.

Save the Date! Parent's Night Out May 4

Off to the races! Come watch the Kentucky Derby with the OHS community at our Parent's Night Out on May 4. More info to come!

PTA Meeting Rescheduled to March 26

We are rescheduling our March PTA meeting to Tuesday night, March 26 at 7pm. We are sponsoring many events between now and the end of the year, and our meetings are a great way to stay informed!

Team Teddy St. Baldrick's Fundraiser at OHS on March 22

Three weeks to go until Team Teddy OHS! Come join us next Friday, March 22, from 5:30pm-8:00pm.

This will be our 15th annual fundraiser. There will be raffles (tickets to “Hamilton” Billy Joel, Red Sox/Yankees; a brand-new bike, and so much more), a bake sale, Super Duper Weenie and all sorts of fun for a great cause.

This year we have already raised almost $39,000, bringing our 15-year total to over $1.5 million.

The money raised by events like ours goes towards grants that allow scientists to better understand pediatric cancers and how to treat them more effectively, giving children a better chance to recover and live their lives.

Those who want to contribute without going bald can sponsor a shavee, buy treats at the bake sale, or purchase raffle tickets with the chance to win fantastic prizes.

To sign up to be a shavee, make a donation, or check out our local sponsors, visit: https://www.stbaldricks.org/events/TeamTeddyOHS2024
