Dear OHS Families,

I hope you all had a terrific Halloween! The day at school was so much fun! We couldn’t have asked for better weather for the parades - if anything it was actually a little hot in the costumes! Thank you to all of the families for following the costume guidelines, and thank you to all the volunteers who helped out in the classrooms. All of us working together made it a great day for the kids!

Construction Update: All ceilings are removed now. The next tasks for the project managers are to inspect the spaces they uncovered, take pictures over the next few weeks, and draw up the plans for the mechanicals. Installations will not likely start until after Thanksgiving.

A few important reminders to all parents/guardians:

  • There is no adult supervision at the school prior to 8:45 am.

  • Please make sure your SDM is updated if you have any changes in dismissal.

  • Please remember that Tuesday is Election Day, and there is no school for students.

Have a wonderful week!

Sean F. Smyth, Principal

Save your cans for the Turkey Trot Food Drive

November is Turkey Trot season! The Turkey Trot Food Drive starts today and runs through November 21st, and culminates with the Turkey Trot - a fun run around the building during school on November 26.

Please consider bringing in non-perishable goods to be donated to Operation Hope. Last year they were blown away by our support. Donations can be brought right to your child’s classroom. The classroom with the most items collected will receive a prize!

Also, if you have any spare cardboard boxes (think small moving box size) please drop them in the office. Below are a list of items requested by Operation Hope:

Questions? Contact the Turkey Trot Committee.

Enter the National PTA Reflections Art Competition

Calling all artists - the National PTA's Reflections Art Competition is back! Students are invited to create art under the theme "Accepting Imperfection" in the categories of visual arts, photography, music composition, film production, dance choreography, and literature. Submissions are due by December 6.

OHS winners from grades K-2 and 3-5 will be chosen from EACH of the 6 categories, and move on to the State level. You can find more info about this year's theme here.

Last year was the first time OHS took part in the contest, and we were blown away by the creativity and talent on display. You can check out last year's entries on our website.

We'll have more information to come!

Take a quick survey about the Harvest Faire & Raffle

We want to hear from you! The Harvest Faire and the Harvest Faire Raffle are one of OHS PTA's biggest fundraisers and we want to take the opportunity to gather information about your experience as we plan for future events. Please click here to take a brief survey. The survey is for both those that attended and did not attend the event. If you did not attend, we are curious to know why! Your feedback is important to us!

Any questions or issues about the survey, please contact Melissa Miller and Kate Fierman

Claim your items from the Lost & Found

Missing a sweatshirt? We might know where to look. The OHS lost and found table outside of the office is full of unlabeled items. If you recognize an item, please have your child pick it up. Unclaimed items will be donated by November 15.

Need labels? Buying from Name Bubbles supports the PTA

Mrs. Budlowski searches each item for a label to return them to their rightful owners. Help her out by labeling your child's clothes and water bottles.  Need some labels? Order Name Bubbles washable labels through the link below and a portion of the proceeds will go to the PTA.

Board of Education member at next PTA meeting

Our November PTA meeting will be next Thursday, November 14 at 7pm. Board of Education member (and former OHS parent) Carol Guernsey will join us to answer your questions and give updates. Email Melissa Miller with any topics or questions you'd like to discuss. We hope to see you there!

Extra candy? Donate it to the Sweetheart Dance

Have any extra Halloween candy? We'll take it off your hands! Please consider donating nut-free candy for the Sweetheart Dance. There will be a box in the office until November 15.

Questions? Contact Eva Elinskas

Pumpkin composting coming soon

Don't throw your fall pumpkins in the trash - you can compost them with the OHS Green Team! We'll have a pumpkin dumpster in the parking lot from November 25-December 6.

November observances with the IDEA committee

The IDEA (Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, & Action) committee at Osborn Hill Elementary honors the differences of each individual student and family. We recognize the following observances for the month of November and wish a meaningful month to all who are celebrating.

Would you like to participate or lead an activity for any of these observeances in November? Please email ohsidea@gmail.com.  Some examples of ways to participate are:

  • Submit a book to be read to the school or classrooms
  • Create an arts & craft project for the school or classrooms to participate in
  • Share a special tradition or story in our next Flash
  • If you have an idea that is not listed above let us know!

Have news to share? Email Jen Braunby 10am Friday
to include in the following Monday's OHS Weekly Flash.
