Dear OHS Families,

I hope you all enjoyed a pleasant April break, and I hope those who celebrate Easter and Passover had a wonderful holiday!

Below are some important notices for this week, as we continue a busy spring season at OHS:

  • Students in grades 3-5 will be starting the Smarter Balanced Assessments (SBA) on Tuesday. Please make sure students get a good night’s sleep and eat a healthy breakfast each day so they are set up for success. Be on the lookout for more information from Mrs. Day during testing.

  • Please remember to adhere to the reminders I sent home about smart watches and cell phones:  Fairfield elementary school policy is that students cannot have smart watches or cell phones out in school. They are allowed to be brought to school if you permit it, but they must be turned off and stored in their backpack until student dismissal. We cannot keep track of devices, or be responsible for devices.

  • This Thursday, April 24th, is the OHS Literacy Night from 6:00-8:00 PM. The K-2 session is from 6-7 PM, and the grade 3-5 session is from 7-8 PM. Come see first hand what our new literacy curriculum looks like in the classroom and how you can help support your children at home. If you are  interested in attending, please RSVP to cmorello@fairfieldschools.org and indicate which session (or both) you will be attending.  Editors note: the PTA will provide free babysitting for those attending! Click here to reserve your spot.

  • Friday will be an OHS Spirit Day, and there will be a Fairfield Woods Middle School Concert for our 4th and 5th graders in the morning. It is also an active week for ASA’s, so please make sure your SDM is kept current.

Finally, I want to congratulate Ms. Ellen Sigmund, who announced she will be retiring at the end of this school year! Ms. Sigmund has had a long and successful career of 37 years in teaching. She is one of the few remaining staff members who started at Osborn Hill School when it reopened in 1997! She has had a tremendous impact on the OHS community during her tenure, for which we are very grateful, and we wish her well in the next chapter of her life!

I am looking forward to a busy, but fun, final stretch of the school year! Have a terrific week ahead! Take care.

Sean F. Smyth, Principal

Run Club returns this Friday!

Osborn Hill Run Club returns for the spring this Friday morning at 8:00am! We'll meet each Friday (weather permitting) on the back blacktop by the gym through May 30.

What happens at Run Club?

We do a quick warm up and then the kids will run (or walk) on the back field. We will finish with a cool down and stretch and be ready for the first bell at 8:45. No running experience necessary. Our Run Club is all about getting our kids outside, moving their bodies and having fun. Each week our runners will collect motivational tokens for their participation, and our mileage club card will track their progress throughout the season.

How do I sign up?

If you signed up in the fall, you do not have to sign up again! New runners can sign up by filling out this form. To participate in Run Club you MUST have a current family PTA membership.

Please note that there is no access to the school during Run Club. All runners are expected to stay on the back field with the group during Run Club. If your child is comfortable and fully engaged in the program, you may drop off. If you stay during Run Club, please do not park in the back or side parking lots. Parents are encouraged to participate if they would like to join. A change of shoes and socks is recommended on Run Club days.

Celebrate our Teachers May 5th-9th

Our OHS Teacher Appreciation Week is May 5th – 9th and we are so excited to show the OHS staff just how much they mean to us. Each day we have something special planned but we need YOU!

Here's how you can help-

  1. Plan to assist your child in making a sign showing their favorite teacher(s) some love. We are looking for signs that have stakes to go into the ground, similar to these. Bonus points if it's a superhero theme! The signs can be left outside the front doors at OHS; there will be a designated box to put them in (starting 5/2 - 5/4).
  2. Sign up here to donate snacks/beverages for our snack cart and to stock the lounge. *Please pay special attention to the date of delivery*
  3. Have your child fill out this award and turn it in to the front office by Friday, May 2nd.

Please reach out to Kim Dragovic, Dana Zuskin, Tanya Dunne or Maria McKeon with any questions. Thank you!

Ride with the Bike Bus May 9

Get ready to shift into gear! Our 2nd Annual Bike Bus to school is just around the bend on May 9th, and we're wheely excited to see you there!

What is the Bike Bus?

It's like a regular school bus, but on bikes! Kids and parents will ride their bikes to school following a set route and schedule. Riders can join the 'bus' at designated pick-up points along the route - see the course map and times here. After having over 50 participants in last year's inaugural event, we're hoping to crank up the participation level for our 2nd annual event.

How do I join?

Sign up now to join the Bike Bus and help us make it a spoke-tacular event! Remember, each child needs at least one responsible adult rider. You can find all the details about the Bike Bus here

The OHS WALK-A-THON steps up on May 16

The 2025 OHS WALK-A-THON will take place on Friday, May 16th. This is an annual event in which all students and faculty walk together in a loop around the neighborhood as parents and neighbors cheer them on.

What does the WALK-A-THON fundraise for?:

The WALK-A-THON is one of our biggest PTA fundraising efforts at Osborn Hill. It funds programs like author visits, field trips, STEM & SEL presentations, field day and so much more! This year, our fundraising goal is only $22 per student. To help make this achievable we have created a webpage for every student to send out to friends and family if they wish.

How to support:

Donations can be made via check or online. Check out your child's fundraising page by following these directions:

  • Go to OHSPTA.com and log in

  • Click on 'My Account' on the top right corner

  • Select 'My Forms/Paperwork'

  • Find the fundraising campaign for your student to edit your page and start promoting!

  • Share your student’s link via Facebook, Twitter or Email

New this year! OHS WALK-A-THON Training Program:

To help our Otters prepare for the WALK-A-THON, we have created our first ever WALK-A-THON training program! The training program runs for 3 weeks leading up to the walk on May 16th. The program is completely optional, but it is designed to be a fun activity to do with your children to get outside and get moving. It also encourages students to build endurance and celebrate the generous support of their family and friends. Download your training plan and chart your progress for a chance at a prize!

New this year! WALK-A-THON Class Colors:

Each class is assigned a class color which can be worn for BOTH the WALK-A-THON and Field Day.  Grab something from your closet or get creative!

Thanks for all your support and look for more info soon on ways you can help out on the day of the walk!

Save the date - STEAM Night for Grades 3-5 on May 19
Donate used items and shop the FPS Green Teams' Spring Resale

Please consider sharing your gently used items with the FPS Green Team! There is a collection box in the OHS lobby this week collecting donations towards the town-wide Green Team Resale. You can shop the donated items Saturday, April 26 from 12-3 PM at Sherman. Funds raised by the sale will support the Green Teams throughout Fairfield Schools.

Summer Birthdays

If your child celebrates a summer birthday:

  •  From May 1 to May 11, we will announce daily birthdays for the months of May, July, and August (i.e., May 1, July 1 & August 1)
  •  From May 12 to May 31, we will announce daily birthdays for the months of May, June, July, and August

Your child will receive their birthday book on the above day (Saturday and Sunday birthdays are announced on Fridays). You are welcome to come in and bring a special birthday lunch during their 30-minute lunch time, stay, and visit with your child sitting on an assigned birthday table in APR or just drop their special birthday lunch off.

Are You Moving?

If you are planning on moving or changing your address, please email Mrs. Budlowski so she can put your child on her list. Please let her know where you are moving to.

  • If you are moving OUT of the OHS District or Out of Town and your child will NOT be attending OHS this coming school year, a request for record transfer will be sent to you for your completion.
  • Moving to a new address within the OHS district or within the FPS district: If you have a child(ren) enrolled in the Fairfield Public Schools and have moved, to change your address in Infinite Campus, you will need to provide Proof of Residency. You can find the list of documents required here
