Dear OHS Families,

I hope you all had a terrific weekend!

We transitioned back to school nicely after April break. Students and teachers came back refreshed and got right back into teaching and learning. Our grade 3-5 students started their state tests this week, and the testing went smoothly. We ended the week with Spirit Day and the first spring Run Club, which was blessed with beautiful weather. We also had a wonderful visit from the FWMS chorus and orchestra on Friday. The group included a large contingent of OHS alumni, and they were amazingly talented! The OHS teachers and staff were thrilled to see them all and how much they have grown!

Below are some important notices for this week, as we continue a busy spring season at OHS:

  • Students in grades 3-5 will continue the Smarter Balanced Assessments (SBA). Please make sure students get a good night’s sleep and eat a healthy breakfast each day so they are set up for success.

  • Please remember to adhere to the reminders I sent home about smart watches and cell phones: Fairfield elementary school policy is that students cannot have smart watches or cell phones out in school. They are allowed to be brought to school if you permit it, but they must be turned off and stored in their backpack until student dismissal.

  • We also have the Spring Book Fair operating in our hallway this week. Thank you to the parent volunteers running the book fair! Getting more books into our students’ hands is always a great thing! We also have lots of ASA’s this week, so please make sure your SDM is up-to-date, and hopefully we get great weather again this Friday for Run club. Finally, we have a PTA meeting on Thursday night at 7:00 PM - we hope to get a good turnout to take part in the wonderful work done by the OHS PTA.

Have a terrific week ahead! Take care.

Sean F. Smyth, Principal

With so many events on the calendar, our PTA meetings are a great way to stay in-the-know! This meeting we're going to present the 2025-2026 OHS PTA Board candidates, and focus on planning for next school year as we prepare to finalize the budget. If you have any input and ideas, we encourage you to attend and share them at the meeting.

Celebrate our Teachers May 5th-9th

Our OHS Teacher Appreciation Week is May 5th – 9th and we are so excited to show the OHS staff just how much they mean to us. Each day we have something special planned but we need YOU!

Three ways you can help:

  1. Make a sign - Your child can create a lawn sign showing their favorite teacher(s) some love. Signs must have metal stakes - suggested signs for purchase here. Bonus points if it's a superhero theme! The signs can be left outside the front doors at OHS; there will be a designated box to put them in from Friday-Sunday.
  2. Donate snacks and beverages -Sign up here to contribute to the snack cart and teachers' lounge. *Please pay special attention to the date of delivery*
  3. Have your child fill out this award and turn it in to the front office by Friday.

Please reach out to Kim Dragovic, Dana Zuskin, Tanya Dunne or Maria McKeon with any questions. Thank you!

Ride with the Bike Bus May 9

Tired of the drop off line? Join us for the 2nd annual Bike Bus on May 9th, where we'll pedal our way to school with smiles and sunshine! Let's sprocket some joy into our morning routine and teach our kids the fun of biking. Sign up today to make sure you get any weather related updates on the Bike Bus. Each child must have a designated adult rider to ensure everyone stays safe and has a great time. View the course map and times here.

The OHS WALK-A-THON steps up on May 16

Have you started your training program yet? The 2025 OHS WALK-A-THON will take place on Friday, May 16th. This is an annual event in which all students and faculty walk together in a loop around the neighborhood as parents and neighbors cheer them on.

The WALK-A-THON is one of our biggest PTA fundraising efforts at Osborn Hill. This year, our fundraising goal is only $22 per student. To help make this achievable we have created a webpage for every student to send out to friends and family if they wish - find more info on fundraising here

WALK-A-THON Training Program

The new OHS WALK-A-THON Training Program has officially kicked off this past Saturday, April 26th! Download your training plan and chart your progress for a chance at a prize!

WALK-A-THON Class Colors

Each class is assigned a class color which can be worn for BOTH the WALK-A-THON and Field Day.  Grab something from your closet or get creative! View your class colors here.

Look for more info soon on ways you can help out on the day of the walk!

Questions? Reach out to Lindsay Gaines or Francesca Meyer.

Save the date - Field Day is May 22

Kids will be jumping out of their beds to get to school on Field Day with all the fun stuff we've planned for them - from inflatables, a sponge relay, sack race... and did we mention inflatables already??

Volunteer to be part of the fun!

You guessed it...we need volunteers to help out at the stations and make sure the kids have the best time!

Celebrating Administrative Professionals Day

Last week, we wished a very happy Administrative Professionals Day to our all-star OHS office staff - Mrs. Budlowski, Mrs. Gerber and Mrs. Callahan. On behalf the OHS community, the PTA provided lunch from Granola Bar and a bouquet of flowers. Please join us in thanking them... they do so much, and our community is so lucky to have them. Also, thank you for your support of the PTA to make these things happen!

Summer birthday celebrations start Thursday

If your child celebrates a summer birthday:

  •  From May 1 to May 11, the office will announce daily birthdays for the months of May, July, and August (i.e., May 1, July 1 & August 1)
  •  From May 12 to May 31, they will announce daily birthdays for the months of May, June, July, and August

Your child will receive their birthday book on the above day (Saturday and Sunday birthdays are announced on Fridays). You are welcome to come in and bring a special birthday lunch during their 30-minute lunch time, stay, and visit with your child sitting on an assigned birthday table in APR or just drop their special birthday lunch off.
