Dear OHS Families,

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend!

We had a terrific week at Osborn Hill!  We finished our NWEA assessments, which will help us track student progress and provide us with data to inform our instruction. We had an extremely high-energy assembly on Tuesday, “So Fun City,” which the students found very fun! Pictures included below. The 5th grade really enjoyed their trip to Perry Mill Pond on Wednesday, despite a few rain drops. There also seemed to be a great turnout for Run Club this past Friday!

In addition, we had a fire drill on Friday, and the children did a wonderful job! The students who were in the bathroom and the hallway found the nearest staff member and went outside with them, which is exactly what they should do. Also, regarding student safety, I sent home a Parent Square two weeks ago about bike safety. Please continue to reinforce with your children how to ride their bikes safely, in the neighborhood and at school.

Looking at this week, please remember we have Tuesday off for Rosh Hashanah, and this Friday is an OHS Spirit Day…have children wear their OHS gear to school!

Finally, I want to update you regarding our vestibule construction. The contractor is securing the materials they needed to finish the job, and they will continue the work when students are not in school, this Tuesday, September 23rd, and next Thursday, October 2nd. Hopefully that will be enough time for them to be close to finishing the project.

I hope you and your children have a great week! Take care.

Sean F. Smyth, Principal

Osborn Hill Takes the Pink Pledge

OHS, get ready to think pink! October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. On Thursday, October 10th, OHS will celebrate Pink Day to promote awareness and to raise funds for the Norma Pfriem Breast Center. Students can bring in $1 that day to wear pink!

In the meantime, if you'd like to contribute to the Pink Pledge, please click HERE to donate.

September Celebrations

Happy September! This month, we celebrate: Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15-October 15), Rosh Hashanah (September 22-24), and Shardiya Navaratri (September 22-October 2).

Does this Heritage Month have a particular significance to your family? Does your family celebrate any of these holidays or have any special traditions?

We would love to hear more and share with our community!

Email Rachael Bouthot and Melissa Miller and we will share in next week's flash.

Note: The Fairfield Public Schools Culture Committee uses the National PTA Awareness Calendar but if you have a holiday/awareness month that you celebrate not on this list, please do reach out!

Buy your tickets to the Harvest Jam!

Tickets are on sale, so click here to get yours on the OHS website!. You’ll find lots of helpful information on the site, like what’s included in your $12 ticket, what fun add-ons will be available, and what food options you’ll find at the event. Remember, this is OHS’s BIGGEST FUNDRAISER of the year, so please support our fabulous school!

What if I have little kids who can’t stay up late? What if my kid has a game that night?

The Harvest Jam has something for everyone, no matter when you can make it!

  • If you have younger kids who can’t hang late, come from 4:30-6:15 for free games, ticketed games, cake walk, the dance party and face painting! There’s still a ton to do even if you can’t stay for the movie.

  • Worried about sports? Come after the game to catch the movie! You can pre-order a movie box or buy concessions when you arrive and it’ll still be a blast. Movie will start at 6:30pm and there will be an intermission for raffle announcements - so come after the game and you’ll still be able to catch up with friends!

  • Double Up Dance will be leading the dance party from 5-6pm

  • UrbanTaqo food truck will be on-site from 5-7pm

Calling all Volunteers!

Help Manage the PTA site!

Our PTA Board is still looking for a parent to help us manage our PTA web site. Dads, this could be you too! The role is fairly flexible, and a lot of the work can be done at time that is most convenient to you. Ideal for someone who is somewhat tech savvy, however the web site is pretty straightforward. If this sounds like you, please email Melissa Miller (melissacmiller8@gmail.com)!

Have news to share
