Dear OHS Families,

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend!

We had a beautiful afternoon and evening for the Harvest Jam on Friday! Thank you to the Harvest Jam Committee: Carolyn Wagenseller, Kristen Dufour, Christine Rollo, and Tina Cerbone, for all of your hard work in putting together a wonderful event! Thank you to Ali Galperin & Eileen Ainsworth for organizing another terrific raffle with over 115 great prizes! Thank you also to the many volunteers who helped run the tables, games, and food to make it such a fun night for the kids! Finally, thank you to our custodians: Mr. Bill, Qamil, and Dom, for working so hard Friday night to get everything cleaned up!

We also had an awesome Book Fair last week! Thank you to Rhiannon Kelty, Ashley Maguire, Christine Rollo, and Ashley Allen for organizing the week-long event. Getting books in the hands of our children is such an important endeavor!

Please keep the following in mind for this week at OHS:

  • Make sure your SDM is accurate for each day of the week - please remember  ASA’s and early dismissals.

  • Tuesday, 10/21 is an Early Dismissal Day. Students will be dismissed at 1:40 PM. There are Parent-Teacher Conferences in the afternoon.

  • Thursday, 10/23 is an Early Dismissal Day. Students will be dismissed at 1:40 PM. There are Parent-Teacher Conferences in the evening.

Please also be aware of this upcoming Fairfield parent event on “Guiding the Anxious Generation.” This presentation and discussion will center on Jonathan Haidt’s book The Anxious Generation. I read this book over the summer, and it was a real eye-opener on the impact smart phones and social media have on our children. Please see the link above for details on the event.

We look forward to another terrific week ahead at OHS! Take care.

Sean F. Smyth, Principal

Thank you to everyone that joined us Friday night for the Harvest Jam! We had a blast and the amount of support was far beyond our wildest dreams. We sold over 650+ tickets – proof of the amazing community we have here at OHS. This year’s event was a full revamp so we weren’t sure what would work and what wouldn’t, and it was successful because of all of your support! Thank you for your patience and understanding as we pivoted on food (nothing like a food truck breaking down just before 600+ people are set to arrive to get the blood pumping) and to all the parent volunteers that stepped in to help – from donating cakes to checking people in to helping with set up and clean up, we couldn't have done it without you. And thank you to Mother Nature for the beautiful weather!!

A few more important shout-outs…

Thank you to Mr. Smyth, Mrs. Day and Mr. Marko for their assistance throughout the process and day-of, and to our fearless PTA leader Kate Fierman who was a massive help and support during planning and execution. Mr. Bill and the janitorial team were rockstars! Thanks to the Fairfield University tennis team who showed up and allowed us to be far more flexible with parent volunteers, and the Fairfield Police Department who stepped in to make sure everyone was safe during and after the event. Matt McCarthy crushed it with his amazing Ozzie skills, and Press Play Events and Production did an amazing job hyping up the best dance party. Time to Party provided the awesome inflatables and games and Premier Outdoor Movies did a great job with the movie screen setup. Pizza Palace and Primo Pizza kept us fed and Tahlia Richerson amazed us with her face painting talents!

A special thank you to all these local businesses who were so generous in their sponsorship of this event and made so many of the fun activities possible: O’Dell Group, Children’s Art Classes CAC, Shoshana SnyderBlue+Berries, and Smile Ark Pediatric Dentistry.

We hope everyone had a great time – see you next year!

Kristen, Carolyn, Christine, and Tina

Thank You to all who participated in this year's raffle. We set a new record in ticket sales this year.

We had amazing prizes, many that were donated by OHS faculty and families. We have such a special school community.

All winners have been notified at this point.

Please reach out to Ali or Eileen to arrange for prizes not picked up yet.
