Dear OHS Families,

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend!

It was great to see everyone come out for Parent/Teacher Conferences the last two weeks! The partnership between parents and teachers is such a vital part of our children’s education. Please remember, it does not just happen at conference time - Reach out whenever you have a question or important information to communicate.

Please keep the following in mind for this week at OHS:

  • Please make sure your SDM is accurate for each day of the week.

  • 4FL, 4H and 4P Field Trip to Perry Pond on Monday 10/27

  • 4B Field Trip to Perry Pond on Tuesday, 10/28

  • Picture Retake Day is Wednesday, 10/29

  • Grade 1 Field Trip to Silverman’s Farm is Thursday 10/30

  • Halloween Parades on Friday

    • 9:30-10:00 Kindergarten

    • 2:30-3:00 Grades 1-5

(Please see my Parent Square that I sent Friday for more details)

Please also be aware of this upcoming Fairfield parent event on “Guiding the Anxious Generation.” This presentation and discussion will center on Jonathan Haidt’s book The Anxious Generation. I read this book over the summer, and it was a real eye-opener on the impact smart phones and social media have on our children. Please see the link above for details on the event.

We look forward to another terrific week ahead at OHS! Take care.

Sean F. Smyth, Principal

Picture Day Retakes Wednesday

School portraits were sent home with your child last week. Not thrilled with your school photo? Don't worry - Picture Retake Day is on Wednesday, October 29. All you need to do is bring in your undamaged portrait package for the photographer (you can keep the class photo). If you have any specific instructions for the photographer, write them down so they show through the envelope window. Retake photos should be available 3-5 weeks after they are taken.

Pumpkin Composting is Back at OHS!

Let’s keep those pumpkins out of the landfill and put them to good use! From November 1–15, a composting dumpster will be located in the upper car loop — easy-to-spot and convenient for everyone driving by.

We’re competing against 10 other elementary schools to collect the most pumpkin weight, so tell your neighbors, friends, and family to bring their pumpkins to OHS for composting!

If we win, Mr. Smyth has promised to reward every class with an extra recess!

Let’s turn those old pumpkins into compost and bring home the win for OHS!

Save your cans for the Turkey Trot Food Drive

November is Turkey Trot season! The Turkey Trot Food Drive to benefit Operation Hope starts on Monday, November 3rd and runs through Thursday, November 20th.  The food drive culminates with a school-wide fun run around the building during school on November 25th.

Please consider bringing in non-perishable goods from the list below to be donated to Operation Hope.  Donations can be brought right to your child’s classroom.  The classroom with the most items collected will receive a Crumbl Cookie Gift Card! (We know the food drive gets competitive between classes, so please remember when you purchase a box of hot chocolate that has 8 packets, that counts as one item, not eight!)

We are also in need of cardboard boxes to transport all of the items to Operation Hope.  If you have any small moving boxes please consider dropping them off at the main office.

Below are a list if items requested by Operation Hope:

Thanks in advance for your support. Sign-up sheets for the Turkey Trot and for volunteers to help transport the donations to Operation Hope will be coming out soon.
