Dear OHS Families,

We have arrived at the final week before our winter break.  Please note, Friday, December 22nd, is an 1:40 Early Dismissal day to start the break.

Mad Science

This past week, Mad Science was back for grades 3, 4, and 5 program. This time, Fiona Fusion presented “Freaky Lab” to our students. I again heard positive feedback about the event.  Big thanks to Kate Fierman for organizing this program and to the OHS PTA for supporting this type of programming for our students.

Winter Sing Along

This coming Friday morning, we will have our annual Winter Sing Along with students.  We will sing a variety of songs from different holiday traditions, including Christmas, Hannukah, and Kwanzaa, as well as ones that simply celebrate winter.  Big thanks to Laura Haskitt for preparing the beautiful music and making a special moment for our students.

Gift Card Update

Thank you to all who contributed to our gift card collection.  We are working on distributing the gift cards to families in our community.  If your family is facing financial challenges this season, please reach out to Stefanie Cappelieri, or Lindsay Feducia-MartinPatty Day, or me to confidentially let us know by email or calling us at school: 203-255-8340.

Staff Goodies

On Tuesday, the PTA is organizing a special goodie-filled day for the staff.  I know we will all appreciate the goodies and all the planning and time it takes to put it all together, especially during these busy December days.  Thank you to all who organized and are contributing to this.

Wishes for All of You

Hannukah ended last week and I hope everyone celebrating enjoyed the eight nights.  Happy Hannukah to you!

I want to wish those celebrating Christmas next week a Merry Christmas!

I hope everyone celebrating Kwanzaa over the break has a very Happy Kwanzaa!

And to those families not celebrating a particular holiday, I hope you enjoy the time with family over the break and that you are able to relax.

I look forward to seeing you all in 2024!

David

Coming Soon: Lunchtime Composting!

Osborn Hill is going green! We are excited to announce the OHS Green Team is bringing composting to the cafeteria next month. Starting January 16th, students will divide their lunch waste into the following categories:

Share Table

Liquid

Recycle

Trash

Compost

There will be an assembly the morning of the 16th to teach everyone the new procedures.

Drop off your sweets for the staff lounge

Thank you to Karla Connors for organizing a 'dessert buffet' for our staff in the teacher's lounge on Tuesday, and to all who volunteered to contribute an item!  You can drop off your sweets at the front office on Monday or Tuesday morning.  If you've forgotten what you signed up for or wonder if there are any additional opportunities, you can find the sign-up sheet here.

Lost & Found is full again!

It's only been three weeks after the Lost and Found table was cleared, and it's already full of unlabeled sweatshirts, hats and gloves. Unclaimed contents will be donated on Thursday, so please see take a close look above and have your child claim any lost items you recognize.

Name Bubbles Labels

One way to help keep the Lost and Found table empty is by labelling your childs' items. Luckily we can help! The PTA has partnered with Name Bubbles, which makes laundry and dishwasher safe name label stickers for clothing and water bottles. If you purchase through the link below the PTA will recieve a portion of the proceeds. It's a win-win!

Find teacher favorites on our website

Trying to guess which restaurant in town is your teacher's favorite? Do they prefer Starbucks or Dunkin'?  Candy or candles? 'Tis the season for tough questions... but you can find the answers to all of these and more on our OHS PTA website!

We've done the leg work for you and surveyed OHS teachers and staff for their favorite things. You can find them by selecting "Staff Favorites" under the School Info tab, or by clicking here.

A reminder - a portion of the funds collected by room parents at the beginning of the year are budgeted for a class holiday gift for the homeroom teacher.

Variety Show - Narrators and Stage Crew needed!
  • We are still looking for a few more 5th and 4th grade volunteers for Variety Show narrators and stage crew. Please email us if your child is interested at ohsvarietyshow2024@gmail.com.

  • Registration for performers is open now! Just email us the name and grade of the participants and the name of your act. Registration closes on January 5th.

  • Start brainstorming song ideas - song selection begins on January 5th. Stay tuned to the next Flash for more info!

Deadline Extended for the Reflections Art Competition

Do you have a child that loves to create?  Encourage them to enter the Reflections Art Competition. The deadline has been extended to January 12, so your kids have plenty of time to design a drawing, painting, photograph, movie, song or dance for a chance to win!

Answer the prompt "I am hopeful because..." using one of these six categories:

  • Visual arts
  • Photography
  • Music composition
  • Film production
  • Dance choreography
  • Literature

There will be a winner from OHS in each category for grades K-2 and 3-5.  Winners will get a gift card to Crumbl and move on to the state competition! Entries must be submitted by January 12.
